An excellent article appeared in QST called "Junk-Box Converters for 6 and 2 Meters", by Rod Kreuter, WA3ENK, QST, January 1997, Page 32, that describes a couple of converters that are very easy to build. The circuit uses low cost oscillator modules used on motherboards or on any board having a microprocessor. These converters can be built on the prototype section of the receiver. The main receiver can be built for the output frequencies of the converters. A wide range VFO can be built and the input toroid normally covers a wide range of frequencies from the design frequency shown in the charts. Building a converter ahead of the main receiver allows the VFO frequency to be low enough to be very stable. Rod Kreuter's Converters from the article "Junk-Box Converters for 6 and 2 Meters's": |
