Battle of Adobe Walls

There are two articles in this section. The first is from the White Deer Land Museum which is a short piece on the first day of the battle.

The second article is from "Ride the Wind", by Lucia St. Clair Bobson, a very good book on the story of the Comanches living on the Staked Plains.

The battle of Adobe Walls was the turning point for the settlement of the Texas Panhandle. The last large buffalo herd was located in the Texas Panhandle. Buffalo hunters from Kansas wanted to come into the Panhandle to hunt. The Indians had a very rough winter in Oklahoma on their reservations, and decided to cut loose and go back to the Panhandle where there was still plenty of buffalo and wide open range.

The largest group of Indian warriors ever assembled, over 700 in all, planned to push the whites out of the only remaining unsettled area of the country.
