Neeley, Bill. "The Last Comanche Chief". 1995, John Wiley and Sons
Neeley's best book on Quanah. Excellent book.
"Ride the Wind", subtitle: The Story of Cynthia Ann Parker and the Last Days of the Comanche, by Lucia St. Clair Robson, Ballantine Books, New York, 1982.
I can't praise this book enough. An incredible book about the early life of the Comanches on the Staked Plains. Even though it is classified as fiction, it accurately pictures the everyday life of the Comanche. She included all the historical facts that were available in the book, filling in with her own imagination where she needed to complete the story. A "must read" book, still in print and can be ordered from any bookstore!
"Quanah Parker, Comanche Chief", by William T. Hagan, University of Oklahoma Press, Norman and London, 1993.
Mainly about his life between 1875 and his death in 1911, this is a very accurate scholarly analysis, based on solid fact. He notes however, "The public man's career is relatively easy to follow, but Quanah's private life was rarely shared with the white man." (Page xvi)
On the overleaf: "...he faced the classic dilemma of a leader caught between the dictates of an occupying power and the wrenching physical and spiritual needs of his people."
"Quanah Parker achieved unparalled success and enduring renown."
